Browned Butter Cinnamon Krispies

Calling all cinnamon lovers out there! You’re going to love these browned butter cinnamon krispies.

First of all, let me first say that I totally love rice krispie treats. I mean, who doesn’t? They’re a treat staple in every family and have been for decades. But lemme introduce a new player to you: these browned butter cinnamon krispies.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch has to be one of the best cereals out there. Amiright?! In fact, if we walk down the cereal aisle at the store, it’s always the box that my kiddo begs to get. And hey, I can’t blame him, he’s got good taste! Last time we went to the store, the boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch were on sale, so I grabbed a couple. Then I decided to make these.

They start with browned butter (as many amazing recipes do), and this helps to give them a little depth of flavor. I also added vanilla extract to make them a little more dreamy. Basically, these are the same as rice krispie treats, but with brown butter, vanilla, and the tastiest cereal.

First, you’ll want to start with browning the butter. You’ll need a small saucepan for this (stainless steel is best–either way, you’ll want something light colored so you can monitor the color of the butter better). Let the butter melt over medium heat, swirling to make sure it melts evenly. Then, watch and swirl until the butter starts to smell nutty and is starting to turn light brown. The butter solids on the bottom will solidify and look crispy, but that’s okay. Just keep swirling and stirring to make sure it browns evenly. This will probably take about ten minutes, then just remove it from the heat.

After that, all you have to do is add the butter to the mallows, get it melted and smooth, then add the cereal. Stir it up well, then bam! You’re done. You’ve just made one of the tastiest, easiest treats out there.

Browned Butter Cinnamon Krispies

Servings 16

Ingredients

  • 10 cups mini mallows, divided (one 16 oz bag)⁣
  • 6 tablespoons butter⁣
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 7 ⁣ cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal ⁣ ⁣

Instructions

  1. Liberally grease a 9x13 cake pan and set aside. Brown the butter in a small, light-colored saucepan (using a dark-colored pan makes it hard to tell the color of the butter as it browns). This should take about ten minutes. Add the butter and 8 cups of the marshmallows to a large pot and allow to melt over medium heat. Add vanilla and salt and stir until completely melted and smooth. Add the cereal and remaining two cups of marshmallows and stir until mixed well. Spread evenly in the cake pan and allow to cool before cutting into cubes. Enjoy! ⁣
